Some people spend a life time trying to find the secret to career success & climbing the corporate ladder. Whilst there are no hard and fast rules, there certainly are some common threads.

Set Goals

First and foremost, know what want you want to accomplish to provide direction in your career. Plan and set S.M.A.R.T Goals; goals that are specific, measurable, accountable, realistic and time sensitive. Then put these plans into action.

Be Ambitious

Generally, in the job market, it’s the ambitious people that get ahead – ambition will often outweigh talent. People that are fueled by ambition are determined, work hard and make sacrifices to get to their ultimate goal. The greater the WANT the more likely you will be to achieve it.

Listen more than you speak

By listening, asking questions and valuing other opinions you will find yourself becoming a highly regarded team member thus opening greater opportunities throughout your career.

Develop yourself

To move up the ladder you need to work smarter.

  • Build on your existing skills
  • Take on extra tasks
  • Attending further study
  • Volunteering your time
  • Make use of the multiple social platforms to promote yourself
  • Add value to your existing contacts
  • Network with professionals in your field
  • Utilise your commute to keep updated on industry news, follow influencers, learn a new skill or language
  • Showcase your talent – maximise your impact!

Learn from your mistakes – Persistence

Not every career move will go as planned. With persistence you will learn from these mistakes – the bigger the mistake, the larger the lesson - the better you will be the next time around! What you learn from it and how you apply that lesson to your career is what matters.

Love what you do – then the chances are you will be successful, and the financial benefit will soon follow!
