Group Managing Director John Terry shares with us his number one bucket list destination this week, as part of our ongoing 25-year anniversary celebrations.
John has chosen Iguazú Falls in South America, one of the world’s most magnificent sights! Located on the border of the Argentine province of Misiones and the Brazilian state of Paraná, combined they make up the largest waterfall system in the world. The Iguazú Falls is twice as wide as Niagara Falls and taller too.
Iguazú Falls was formed as a result of a volcanic eruption splitting the surface millions of years ago. The falls lie in a large expanse of national park and stretch over nearly 3km of gorge, with almost 300 individual cascades.
“Visiting Iguazú Falls was the most amazing experience” says John. “Pictures do not do it justice. The sheer volume of water is mind blowing” recalls John.
“Both sides of the falls offer different perspectives, with the Argentine side home to many walking trails that wind through the rainforest offering a close-up view of the falls. While on the Brazilian side, travellers can see more of a panoramic view. It is truly an incredible sight and one I would definitely recommend to any traveller.” John says.
Iguazú Falls is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and in 2011 it became part of the New Seven Wonders of Nature.
